It all started for me with this little photo from 1965. As a proud little boy, aged three and without a care in the world, I walk hand in hand beside my mother in my hometown in North Brabant in The Netherlands. 

Apart from taking care of her family, my independent and entrepreneur mother ran our thriving pub in the day time. In the evening my father joined her behind the bar. The strong bond which I always had with my mother, certainly developed back at our pub. My pram could often be found behind the bar with her. In this safe and special environment, I took my first early steps into fashion; in the shed behind the pub, I crafted dresses from offcuts of billiard table cloth for my doll.
